| Other Music for Young People by Carrie Rose: Composing: In January 2005, Carrie Rose's music and movement piece Rainbows Inside Out for 3 flutes, trumpet, orchestra bells, vibraphone, and chimes was premiered by the DC Youth Orchestra at the University of the District of Columbia. Performing: Rose performed her original program combining flute music and traditional stories in Washington, DC schools for two years through Young Audiences, a national arts-in-education organization. She also performed "Magical Moods of Music" at schools and parks with the Fairfax Symphony Woodwind Quintet. In collaboration with dancer Meryl Shapiro, she performed their original show, "Birds With No Boundaries", in schools and at "Dance Place" in Washington, DC. Teaching and Directing: Rose curretly teaches private flute lessons in her private studio in Takoma Park, MD, near Washington DC, and was formerly a flute instructor at the Cleveland Music School Settlement for five years. She was the vocal and general music teacher at Greenbelt Elementary School, where she taught general music to grades K-6 and directed the 5th and 6th grade chorus. She has also provided music and movement enrichment programs at nursery schools and aftercare programs. At the Cleveland Public School's Summer Literacy Academy, Carrie directed a recorder and percussion ensemble, which collaborated with student dancers at a culminating performance. |
